Description
The 2017 Chateau Lafont Menaut wine is an excellent vintage from an outstanding terroir. This Chateau Lafont Menaut has the charm and richness of this wine become evident at the first sight of its beautiful and brilliant, garnet-red colour. This wine from Pessac-Léognan is still in its youthful stages, this is an intense wine. Dark fruit predominates at first sniff, with notes of blackcurrant and black cherry. After this appears a more complex ensemble of toast and vanilla. The oak is perceptible, but subtly so, the overall impression remaining one of elegance and lush fruitiness. The attack is long, the palate pleasingly well- balanced between volume and tannins. The supple front-of-palate envelops the palate, then gives way to silky, but intense tannins. This 2017 Chateau Lafont Menaut wine has an aromatic finish of fig and toasted bread and fine length.
As part of the same family that owns one of Bordeaux’s best known Classed Growths, Château Carbonnieux, it is hardly surprising that Philibert Perrin has a passion for making good wine. Perrin took over Lafont Menaut 6 years ago. 55% of Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc give the wines a good tannic structure. Other hallmarks are very intense smoky, pencil shaving notes on the nose, so typical of Pessac-Léognan.
