Located in the Clare Valley region of Australia, the Jim Barry wine label was established during 1959 by Jim Barry. The wines produced by him were known for their unique character and flavour. When he started making wines in this region, he was the first qualified person to do so. His wines were mostly made from varietals such as Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, his family members have taken over this brand.

The authentic and beautifully concentrated 2018 Jim Barry Armagh Shiraz, is a powerfully-compressed wine that explodes with aroma and flavour. This Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz wine intense, plush and generous, the oak is hidden behind curtains of deep, ripe, intense fruit and extraordinarily fine, structured tannins.

The vineyard is hand-harvested, with several passes, to achieve optimum ripeness and flavour profile. Vinification takes place in two-tonne, open-top fermenters with heading-down boards. Regular rack-and-return and pump-overs take place to optimise extraction of colour and flavour; in some vintages post-ferment maceration may be an option. At completion of fermentation the wine is pressed off and matured in a combination of new and old French and American oak hogsheads for 13 to 19 months.

“My pick of the recently bottled vintages, the 2016 The Armagh Shiraz shows a bit more obvious oak (simply because of its youth) but also a wonderful taut tension between ripeness and acidity. The fruit here is a bit redder in profile, leaning more toward raspberries than blackberries, while still being fully ripe. Full-bodied and supple, it finishes cedary, intense and long, adding in complex, lingering spice notes.”

The Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Riesling 2016 is delicately poised with mouth watering acidity balanced with lime juiciness and lifted orange blossom florals. The palate has great presence with a fine chalkiness leading into a persistent finish.

The 2020 Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz wine has a dark, inky red hue. Vibrant dark forest fruits of blackberry and plum are complemented by a rich streak of earthy goodness. This McRae Wood Shiraz wine shows a generous girth with rich fruit cake fruits, cherry, and blackberry supported with balanced acidity and complex, delicate grained tannins.

The 2022 Watervale Riesling has all the hallmarks of a classic Clare Valley Riesling; with fresh cut citrus, lemon grass, yellow peach and white florals on the nose. This Jim Barry Riesling has a firm acid drive, with an abundance of citrus, white peach, honey dew melons, gooseberries and a fresh lime finish.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is a unique red blend from Catalunya done Amarone style aged in oak for 4 years.

This Josep Ferrer Garnatxa Negra wine has a blend of 50% Grenache, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2020 Kaiken Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva wine has a intense ruby red color with violet hues. On the nose, it features great complexity where the Cabernet spiciness blends perfectly with mature fruit allowing plum and cherry aromas to stand out. On the mouthfeel it’s a very powerful wine, with subtle tannins and a long finish.

The 2019 Kaiken Estate Malbec wine has a vivid ruby red color. On the nose black fruit and blueberries aromas are evident, accompanied by chocolate, vanilla and elegant flower scents enhance the wine complexity. On the mouth it has velvety and harmonious tannins and good structure, while vanilla notes stay lingering during the long finish.
