In the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Fèlsina’s expansive vineyards are at the luminous southeastern tip of Chianti Classico. The Berardenga label represents a plentiful annual production of 250,000 bottles. On first impression, the 2020 is overtly ripe, yet with time prune cake and vanilla notes subside, allowing wild herb and savoury nuances to step in. The chewy tannins are long and supple, with ample fruit density to balance.

The Rancia vineyard lies entirely within the Chianti Classico zone, in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, north east of Siena. It is a 6 hectars vineyard which sits at 400 metres above sea level, facing south. The vines were planted between 1958-1982, with newer plantings using genetic material from the old Rancia vineyard.

The Felsina Fontalloro IGT 2011 has a ruby red color with rich and intense tones. Variety of aromatic herbs accentuated with generous notes of tobacco and wet earth (dry earth, as well), black currant, and licorice. The palate manifests good consistency of medium-smooth tannins to ensure the lengthy ageing. The wine has a rich structure and weight and elegant breed on the finish. Optimum cellar life in all vintages.

A beautiful wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Maestro Raro showcases the best of Tuscany and the best of this grape. This Cabernet Sauvignon offers a determined load of black fruit followed by a long array of subtle detailing with spice, leather and bitter chocolate. The Felsina Vin Santo Chianti Classico DOCG 2005 is made with Trebbiano, Malvasia and Sangiovese, the 2005 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico opens to a brilliant amber color and thick viscosity that hugs to the rim of the glass. Oak-driven tones of vanilla and caramel are immediately apparent, but quickly followed by candied fruit, butterscotch and orange peel. Clusters undergo a natural drying process on mats until February of the following year. The must is transferred to sealed oak casks containing the “mother,” or gelatinous remains from previous vintages. Fèlsina and consulting winemaker Franco Bernabei have made a fine showing with this new set of releases.

This 2017 Melini Neocampana Chianti DOCG Governato wine is named Governo all’Uso Toscano, after the rediscovery of an interesting traditional method based on a slow second fermentation of the drawn-off wine, with grapes dried in a special drying room. This Chianti is richly historical, local practice is interpreted by a winery which has taken pride in innovation during its 300-year history. The result is a wine with vibrant, authentic character.

The Farnese Fantini winery is located in Abruzzi, just 19 miles away from the sea, under Mount Maiella, which reaches 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) above sea level. The range features a wide variety of wines made from grapes grown throughout the region and thus features many different terroirs and microclimates.

The wines are crafted in the Colline Teramane DOCG appellation in large, ultra modern facilities covering 50,000 square meters (nearly 540,000 square feet) with state-of-the-art vinification equipment and French and American barrels for aging.
