The 2021 Chain of Ponds Graves Gate Shiraz wine has the aromas of redcurrant, fresh raspberries and black olive balanced by plums, hints of mulberry and cedary spice. Lifted sweet notes of vanilla and cashews. The Shiraz has a deep cherry red with slight purple/plum hue. The palate is rich and lively displaying primary red fruits with hints of white pepper and blueberry along with good savoury supporting oak. This Graves Gate Shiraz wine is lively acid and slightly chalky tannins give savoury and textural length to the palate.

The 2023 Chain of Ponds Pilot Block Chardonnay wine has a pale straw with a green hues. The nose shows lifted floral and citrus notes with integrated peach, fig, nectarine and fresh green apple. The fruit is integrated with savoury spicy oak and a hint of vanilla. On the palate there is intense stone fruit characters of roasted peach, fresh nectarine with integrated fig and citrus notes. This Chain of Ponds Pilot Block Chardonnay wine has a savoury oak rounds out the palate with a slight textural edge balancing the creamy soft finish.

The Chain of Ponds Pilot Block Shiraz 2019 has a dark Cherry Red with brick red hue. Intense dark cherry fruits, rhubarb nuances and chocolate on the nose. The 2019 Charles Melton Cabernet Sauvignon wine has a wonderfully complex cigary sweet lift. On the nose, whilst the amalgam of dark fruits holds your interest with a myriad of complementary notes. The attack into the mouth gives an extraordinary sweet plushness with great dark fruits/chicory flavours supported by a fleshy mid palate sweetness that lingers. This Charles Melton Cabernet Sauvignon wine is rich, but not massively constructed wine with a balanced palate of fine proportions.

The 2021 Charles Melton Father In Law is a delicious Barossa Shiraz, a real fruit driven style which will appeal to lovers of big “ballsie” reds. Perfect for the next family gathering. Sweet spicy almost Christmas plum pudding scent, rich and warm. Full but not overly big, showing the typical bit of Clare Valley linear structure in contrast to the Father in Law’s, shall we say, less linear profile.

The 2017 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz has a wonderful expression of the traditional Barossa style. Deep in colour and softly perfumed with excellent melding of vanillin and cedar oak aromatics and rich Barossa Shiraz fruit. Charles Melton Wines has produced premium Barossa red wines, always at our winery on Krondorf Road, since 1984. It was in the mid 80’s that Charlie and a small band of Barossa winemakers turned their winemaking efforts to what was considered then a couple of unfashionable varieties; Shiraz and Grenache. With these varieties, Charlie built a small range of classic dry reds including a Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvedre blend called the Nine Popes.

It is the Grand Vin’s little brother and is generally made from the fruit of the youngest vines and parcels of the vineyard that are less gravelly. The Chateau Kirwan wine confirms the position of the property among the greatest of the appellation.

This Vintage 2019 Charmes de Kirwan does justice to its name. Bottled in June of 2020, it has already begun to reveal an irresistible, gourmand charm. The Chateau Devise d’Ardilley Cru Bourgeois 2011, is a full-bodied wine and soft, balanced tannins with complicated aromas. Especially ripe fruit and green pepper aromas. This wine has elegant oak, leather and nuts flavors.

The 2018 Chateau Baron de Brane Cantenac wine has a deep red colored wine with a restrained fruit-driven Nose. This Chateau Baron de Brane Cantenac wine has a very pure and charming bouquet with brambly red fruit, cedar and pencil shavings, very assured for a Deuxième Vin. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin on the entry, the fruit a little darker than the nose suggests, segueing into a well-defined second half with brown spices and hints of leather. This is an intriguing Baron de Brane wine. The 2016 Baron de Brane is a blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc.

The 2018 Chateau Brane Cantenac is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes. Chateau Brane Cantenac is a perfect match with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, salmon, mushrooms and pasta as well as cheese.

The 2015 Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot wine has a very intense bouquet with copious black cherries, kirsch and blueberry fruit, just a slight warmth of alcohol but nothing too much to get concerned about. The palate is rounded and sexy on the entry, quite plush for this estate, rounded and caressing with a slight savory element from the Cabernets imparting more complexity on the finish. Maybe not the longest Saint-Émilion in terms of longevity but very delicious.

This 2015 Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot is a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2020 – 2040.
