The Barrel Select Line expresses both the fruit attributes, such as freshness and sweetness, along with the smoky influences of oak, which add to the wine’s complexity. This is accomplished by aging a portion of the wine in French oak barrels and then blending with wines aged in stainless steel. As a result, a delicate balance between fruit and oak is obtained, in which the scents and flavors of each blend are combined with the oak’s toasted notes. 50% of the Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in French oak before blending.

This Norton Malbec Reserva is made from carefully selected grapes from vineyards between 30 and 50 years old. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels and then additionally in bottles before release. This serious, ageworthy blend of Malbec with 30% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot uses fruit from Perdriel.

The 2018 Odfjell Aliara wine has a concentrated deep violet colour and the nose is attractive and intense with a range of aromas from the different varieties in the blend. The project of Norwegian ship merchant Dan Odfjell, Odfjell Estate is a result of a family endeavor combining a passion for wine and horses which ultimately led them to invest in Chile. The wines are handled by French winemaker Arnaud Hereu and their focus is on mainly red wines from their Maipo Valley Estate, Old Vine Malbec from Lontue in Curico, and Old Vine Carignan from Maule.

The winery is tucked into the hillsides of their Maipo vineyards and works on a gravity system with a portion of the winery submerged underground. The vineyards are managed biodynamically & organically using sustainable farming techniques.

Over 25 years ago, Dan Odfjell the Norwegian Armador, ship owner fell in love with a small corner of the Maipo Valley. Serendipity would later show that he had found land in Chile’s premium red wine producing valley, where vitis vinifera has been cultivated for 400 years. While most of the other top producers in Chile are working with relatively young vines, Odfjell have forged an unique reputation based on rediscovering the forgotten wealth of Chile’s winemaking past.
