Description
The 2015 Tyrrell’s VAT 47 Hunter Chardonnay is fresh powerful, but restrained white peach style with a subtle lees influence. The palate is intense and well structured, with subtle oak. A continued evolution in style towards a more delicate and textural Chardonnay. The nose shows delicate citrus and white stonefruit with a hint of oak and sulphide lift. The palate has the generosity of Chardonnay in a toned down form. The fruit is balanced well with the fresh acidity and slight textural element from extended time on yeast lees.
The VAT 47 Hunter Chardonnay is best paired with Cedar Plank Salmon, Ahi Tuna, or Brunch of Salmon Benedict.
Murray Tyrrell created the Winemaker’s Selection range back in 1965, when, with the assistance of Len Evans, he set out to determine the best wines from each vintage. He named these wines after the casks in which they were matured; for instance, the first Chardonnay we made went into cask number 47, so it became Vat 47 Chardonnay, or Pinot Chardonnay as it was then called.
